Youngstown (OH) Fire Department officials report that many of the community’s firehouses are old and cannot support newer and heavier equipment. One station recently closed for repairs, and the department’s chief is investigating if other stations will need work as well.
In the closed station’s basement, chunks of concrete below where the fire apparatus is housed is flling from the basement ceiling in chunks. The station was built in the mid 1930s when trucks weighed far less than toady’s fire apparatus.
While repairs are made, Engine 12 will move to another station in the city.
