Westfield is planning to build the city’s first new fire station in a decade, reports indystar.com–a 36,000-square-foot facility for the Westfield (IN) Fire Department at the southeast corner of 171st Street and Ditch Road.

A final cost analysis is still pending, but the city’s estimate was about $13 million, officials say.

The new facility will relocate the department’s Station 81 from the Westfield Public Safety Building, which houses the entire Westfield Police Department, the fire department’s headquarters, and the personnel and equipment for Station 81, according to the report.

Plans for the new station call for eight drive-through bays, administrative offices, a kitchen, dining room, bunk rooms, fitness rooms, and locker rooms, the report says.

The city has three fire stations—the most recent is Station 83 on Grassy Branch Road, finished in 2011.
