PRESS RELEASE
On Monday, July 31 firefighters moved into their brand new, modern, uniquely Milton facility. It sits in the same place as a former Fulton County structure that Milton firefighters called home for many years until its demolition – a step necessary so that the new state-of-the-art station could rise in its place.
While the new Station 42 was being built, crews worked out of Bethwell Community Center near the Cogburn Road/Francis Road intersection. (Milton Parks and Recreation made it possible for Milton Fire-Rescue to use the building; parks programming and events could resume there in the coming weeks.) That made for a tight squeeze since the Bethwell Community Center wasn’t designed for firefighters and their equipment to be there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Yet Milton-Fire Rescue made it work, with any inconveniences worth it since they allowed for better, more efficient coverage of the nearby area.
Now, the firefighters are in their permanent home. While it will take a few days to fully move in, the new Station 42 already qualifies as an upgrade in many ways with its distinctive “great room” to its sleeping quarters to the looping driveway that allows emergency vehicles to get in and out easily.
The new Station 42 came about thanks to a supportive community and City Council, as well as a multi-faceted, well-coordinated project team spearheaded by Community Development Director Bob Buscemi. The latter team included professionals from CROFT, which handled architectural designs, as well as Cooper and Company General Contractors, whose crews built the station.
“We’re excited that this day has come so our crews now can make the most of this terrific Station 42, and we’re thankful to all those who helped make it happen,” said Milton Fire Chief Gabe Benmoussa. “The new Station 42 will be a great work and home-base for our firefighters as they serve our community for many years.”
