Officials recently awarded a $3,065,000 bid to B & B Construction of Youngstown for a new Fire Station 2 in northern Saybrook Township, reports starbeacon.com.
The facility, to be located on Route 45, will be 8,000 square feet and have four drive-through bays and living quarters for crew members, the report notes.

In 2014, due to increased traffic, trustees decided to staff Station 2 on Carpenter Road for better protection. However, that facility doesn’t have living space or sewers, so the department rents a Lake Road house for on-duty personnel, according to the report.
Once the new station comes to fruition, the department will sell the Carpenter Road facility, officials say.
