Sarasota County commissioners are deciding on a funding strategy and contractors for a new fire station, reports The Herald Tribune.
County commissioners will consider whether to borrow $7.9 million to finance the fire station upgrade. They’ll also look to appropriate $2.5 million to replace the fuel site. Lastly, they’ll look to approve several construction and demolition contracts.
The project will replace the current station with a hardened three-bay station above the FEMA floodplain on the existing site. A modular housing unit and tent, used at the fire station on Apex Road, will be relocated to this site to serve as a temporary station during construction. An ambulance and fire truck will dispatch from the existing site.
