Houston, Texas Station 84, designed by Brown Reynolds and Watford, received high praise from the F.I.E.R.O. Fire Station Design Awards Program for its strong “street presence” in an area of competing buildings. There is no doubt that it is a fire station and a stationary “machine” designed to house fire apparatus and turn out firefighters and their mobile equipment quickly. The exterior skin of the building is an astute blend of durable materials carefully combined to call attention to the pubic entrance and give a sense of individual identity to the various functional blocks of the building.
