Fire Station Design Award: Honor

Fire Station: Washington, D.C., Engine Co 16, District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department

Architect: LeMay Erickson Willcox Architects, Reston, Virginia

Exceptional architectural project within the confines of a registered historical building. Restoring the exterior to its previous glory and only enlarging the apparatus bay doors to accommodate modern fire apparatus while completely gutting and rebuilding the interior to meet the demands of the 21st century was no small task. Innovative touches such as the yellow safety band on the apparatus bay doors helped to elevate this project above all others.
