The Parkersburg Fire Department celebrated the grand opening of the new and improved Fire Station No. 2 on the corner of 16th and Covert streets Monday afternoon.
The original Fire Station No. 2 was built in 1931 and suffered a variety of structural issues. It was demolished and ground was broken for the new facility in September.
The process of rebuilding Fire Station No. 2 has been nearly three years in the making, according to Matthews. From designing floor plans to securing the contractual bid through Grae-Con Construction in Marietta and wrapping up the process in late May of this year, it has been a vital process for maximizing modern-day emergency response, officials said.
