Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) met with Mount Prospect Fire Department (MPFD) Chief John Dolan, first responders, and local and state leaders to discuss the department’s ongoing needs, recent developments, and strategies for maximizing local, state, and federal funding to ensure the MPFD can best serve Mount Prospect and its surrounding communities, according to a press release. During his visit, Krishnamoorthi also toured MPFD’s new facility, which began operations in July 2024.
“With the Mount Prospect Fire Department’s recently expanded jurisdiction, additional resources are essential to ensuring the safety of Mount Prospect and surrounding communities,” Krishnamoorthi said. “My discussion today with Chief Dolan and local and state leaders focused on identifying the department’s needs and finding ways to collaborate in closing any gaps to protect our communities. I will continue to fight to secure additional funding for the department in the upcoming government funding package.”
Krishnamoorthi is currently engaging with MPFD on a grant worth more than $1.7 million in federal funding to aid in renovations for one of the department’s fire stations.
Dolan said the funding will help offset the costs of renovating Fire Station 11, the former Elk Grove Rural Fire Protection District headquarters at 1415 East Algonquin Road, dailyherald.com reported.
Krishnamoorthi has prioritized increasing public safety within his district, working with firefighters, police officers, and first responders to ensure departments have adequate resources. In 2024, Congressman Krishnamoorthi worked with the Itasca Fire Protection District to secure $2.5 million in federal funding for a new fire station and the Palatine Police Department to secure $50,000 for new electric motorcycles.
