Lorain’s Fire Department just opened its new station 7, reports The Chronicle.
COVID-19 is preventing the fire department from holding an open house, but the station will soon be operational for the department.
Mercy Health Lorain donated the land and construction cost roughly $1.2 million. The cost was used for a previously passed $1.5 million bond passed in 2016 and carryover from fire levy funds.
The new fire station boasts private sleeping quarters for the station’s four firefighters, unisex bathrooms, a new weight room, large apparatus floor and pull-through garage. The fire station will house an engine, a reserve pumper and the mechanic’s truck.
Some equipment has been moved the old station — including the fire pole, along with much of the weight room and other equipment.
