Space and safety top the list of needs for Hendersonville’s growing fire department as the City Council looks to address renovating or replacing Fire Station 1, reports Blue Ridge Now.
Council members will decide in the coming months what to do with the 20-year-old facility. At the same time, they will look to build a third fire station on recently purchased land off Old Spartanburg Road.
The city paid for a study conducted by ADW Architects, a 47-page report that outlines space needs and options for stations 1 and 3. The department was recently awarded a $1.25-million grant from the Department of Homeland Security/Federal emergency Management Agency to hire 12 additional firefighters in a move to improve fire coverage in the city.
