The city of Florence’s (SC) $5.5 million project for two new fire stations is just about done, reports wmbfnews.com.
Following a March groundbreaking, officials predict a December completion date for the facilities. The plan—Station 4 on Jody Road finishing first and Station 6 shortly thereafter—is still on track, they say.
Station 4 will replace the current Station 4 on Palmetto Street, while Station 6 will be the city’s sixth station on Smith Drive.
Officials say the new facilities will give them full coverage of the growing populations in both West Florence and Northwest Florence—and they should improve response times, which will allow the department to maintain its Class One Rating from the Insurance Services Office. Which, in turn, lowers insurance rates for property owners.
Both stations are just about fully staffed with fire captains already named, officials say.
