The Charlotte Fire Department broke ground on the new $18.9 million Firehouse 11 Tuesday, March 4.

The project budget of $18.9 million includes all costs associated with the project such as planning and design, acquiring the right-of-way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits, and landscaping, the department said.

Firehouse 11, located at 620 West 28th Street, was originally built in the 1950s. The outdated building will be replaced with a modern, state-of-the-art facility that is better equipped to serve the surrounding community, according to the department.

The new firehouse will provide the surrounding community with a modern facility that accommodates a fire team, a rescue team, and houses the latest equipment, the department said.
