A downtown, historic fire station will soon undergo renovations, reports The LowCountry’s News Leader.
The efforts to conserve the 1910 fire station are because the city considers the station a historical structure. To add historic touches there will be an old alarm bell and a ticker-tape printer as well as some other historical pieces of the old station.
The work will primarily include interior renovations to the apparatus bay, bunk rooms, kitchen and day room. New technological additions are also planed.
The station’s roll-up garage door will be replaced with bi-folding, aluminum doors like those at newly constructed stations in the area.
Officials have applied for a Hazard Mitigation Grant and plan to apply for additional funding.
