Whelen Engineering is offering a lighted, audible exit-identifying safety system for firefighters called Door Ease and an alternative to road flares called Safety Site.
Door Ease uses high performance LED technology to provide a bright, reliable flashing or steady-burn light plus audible alert in a heavy-duty door wedge to illuminate entry and exit routes.
It has three modes of operation: flashing; flashing plus audible alert; and steady-burn. It requires three AAA alkaline batteries to create a virtual illuminated route to help get fire and emergency personnel in and out of structures safely.
The company’s Trac-Pak safety system includes a versatile glove-friendly tactical holster that attaches to a waist strap, bail out harness, radio or flashlight strap and holds two Door Ease units. Whelen’s Safety Site is described as an LED traffic control and landing zone system designed as a safe, environmentally-friendly alternative to flares. It features LED light modules for temporary warning in a wide range of situations and applications.
Safety Site modules can be used in the horizontal or vertical position and can be attached to highway cones for added visibility. They won’t burn clothing or ignite grass or leaf fires, the company said.
Electronics are encapsulated for moisture and vibration resistance, and lenses and housings are rugged polycarbonate. The module, which uses three alkaline C batteries, has four standard flash patterns: CometFlash, single flash, steady burn and flare flicker. Compact Cordura duffel bag stores five light modules for ready access.
