Continental Girbau, Inc., a manufacturer of laundry products, introduced the Continental ExpressDry Gear Dryer, a new product for safely drying firefighter turnout gear and equipment including helmets, gloves, boots, face masks, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Continental said the product was engineered to safely and quickly dry a firefighter’s personal protective equipment and work in concert with the Continental E-Series ExpressWash Washer.
The ExpressDry Gear Dryer is National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) compliant, according to Continental, and will accommodate from four to six turnout suits simultaneously, depending on the model.
“Continental’s new ExpressDry Gear Dryer works by blowing a large volume of air, at a controlled pressure, safely through personal protective equipment,” said Joel Jorgensen, Continental vice president of sales and customer services. “By properly washing gear, firefighters are better protected from fire contaminants and costly gear lasts longer.”
The ExpressDry Gear Dryer uses a 110-volt fan to push a large volume of air through the garment from the inside out. Because the fan operates using ambient air, Continental said the dryer is more energy efficient than cabinet style dryers, which require heated air, and align with requirements set forth by gear manufacturers.
