Coatside has Growth Period with New Technology

The move from older, more expensive computers to Apple iPads has not been without some bumps in the road for the Coatside Fire Protection District.

For example, one goal was to complete 42 “pre-incident plans” that are designed as preventative measures that can alleviate problems in the event of various emergencies. So far, only 29 have been finished this year.

Although some documents remain to be uploaded, firefighters no longer need to flip through page after page of hand-drawn maps in binders or use costly, unwieldy computers. Now, they can access critical information in a central location with the swipe of a finger.

The plan is to eventually store maps on the iPads that note emergency water shut-offs and district geography, hydrant maintenance records, notes about violations during business inspections and more.
