The city of Wilmington will hold an open house for the newly re-opened Empie Park Fire Station on Saturday, August 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fire department personnel began moving into the station at the end of July, even while finishing touches were being completed inside and outside the facility.
The project began in August 2011 to replace the old fire station which had to be demolished due to mold. The new 9,000 square-foot station at Empie Park is 880 square-feet larger to better accommodate larger fire equipment. The $2 million project finished on schedule and within budget.
