Three Killed in Boston Marathon Bombing

BOSTON—Two bombs that detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon April 15 caused injuries to hundreds, and three people, including an eight-year-old child, have died as a result of injuries sustained from the blasts.

According to, hospitals have treated 144 people, with 25 in serious condition, 17 in critical condition, and at least 10 patients who had to have limbs amputated. Other injuries reported include broken bones, shrapnel wounds, and ruptured eardrums, according to the Associated Press.

There are various reports of other found explosive devices near the end of the marathon, which were safely disarmed without incident. There is no official number of secondary devices at this time.

The blasts occurred at about four hours after the first competitors crossed the finish line. The bombs exploded approximately 10 to 15 seconds apart, and were planted approximately 100 yards away from each other, according to a CNN report.
