Sealy Fire Department Moves to New Station

The grand opening ceremony for the new Sealy Fire Department station included a hose uncoupling, much like a ribbon cutting for a new business.

Surrounded by volunteers, family and friends, dozens representing the Sealy Fire Department (SFD) turned out to dedicate the new station.

The new fire station, funded by Austin County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 2 taxpayers, is the first station built in the community since 1949, when the station was built on Fowlkes Street.

ESD No. 2 commissioners went to taxpayers in 2010 with a request to increase its tax rate from 3 cents per $100 valuation to 7 cents per $100 valuation to help fund building the new station, as well as taking the once all volunteer department to a 24/7 paid staff.
