New Orleans Fire Captain Passes Away While on Duty

A veteran New Orleans (LA) fire captain passed away Monday while on duty, according to a release from the department.

Captain Michael Windsay died while serving as acting Fifth District chief at New Orleans Fire Department headquarters on March 3, 2025. He was a 30-year veteran of the department, having just celebrated that milestone last month.

The death of Captain Windsay comes on the heels of another death for the department, that of Captain John Blackwell, who passed away on February 24, 2025, after 27 years on the job. He was felled by cancer at 53 years old.
