Fire Department Acquires Fire Apparatus at New Car Price


The Pittsfield Township (MI) Fire Department was able to purchase a new $450,000 pumper for the price of a top-end new car recently.

More than a year ago, the township applied for a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant, which it ws awarded. The grant covered a large portion of the purchase price. The new pumper was delivered in early January and replaces a 1986 rig. The township was responsible for 10 percent of the cost.

The new truck was built by HME Ahrens-Fox. It is a tanker that features a 3,254-gallon water tank. It also features a 1,500-gpm pump. It is built on an HME Ahrens-Fox 1871-W chassis with an MFDxl-12 mid foof cab with large windshield. It is powered by a Cummins L9 engine and Allison 3000 EVS auomatic transmission.
