CA Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is set to authorize $536 million for wildfire prevention efforts.

In a preemptive effort to combat his state’s dry conditions, California Governor Gavin Newsom is set to authorize $536 million for wildfire prevention efforts, according to a report on CBS8.com.

The money—part of $1 billion going toward firefighting efforts statewide originally earmarked for later this year, according to the report—will more than double California’s annual spending on wildfire preparedness compared to recent years.

The payment aims to provide additional resources toward thinning forests, carrying out planned burns, and building fuel breaks around communities prone to wildfires. It will also be used to invest in more equipment and more firefighting crews throughout the state.
