Jimmy Thompson stokes the fire under the boiler. Duke Energy boiler engineer Richard Coutant helped the Charlotte Fire Department restore an original 1902 steam boiler (named Old Sue) used to power a horse-drawn steam fire pump. Duke Energy lent expertise to help meet new inspection codes. The city plans to pull the pump in parades and demonstrate it as part of its community outreach.
