These photos, by Trevor James, were taken at the Silver Spring, Maryland, three-alarm fire/explosion/collapse incident about 12 hours after the initial incident was dispatched. Firefighters rand fire apparatus from the Montgomery County (MD) Fire & Rescue Service (MCFRS) and the Prince Georges County (MD) Fire Department (PGFD) battled heavy fire and explosions for multiple hours into the early morning on 8/11. The apartment complex suffered a collapse during the incident and MCFRS technical rescue teams were assigned to do shoring operations on the building so that agencies could begin recovery and investigation ops. Multiple jurisdictions continue to operate on this incident including the ATF, MCFRS, PGFD, MCPD, and American Red Cross. On August 16, a seventh body was found.
PGFD Rehab 800 responded to the three-alarm apartment complex fire and explosion/collapse on 8/11 to provide rehab and relief for rotating crews of firefighters and first responders on the fireground. This was the first working incident for Rehab 800. PGFD Fire Chief Marc Bashoor was on scene along with Assistant Chief Alan Doubleday to help get the unit into operation mode.
