MSA introduced a line of goggles integral to the Cairns traditional helmet line called the Defender. |
A new eye protection line from MSA means that firefighters will never lose goggles again. The Defender Goggles are built into Cairns helmets as an integral, yet replaceable component.
Introduced at the Fire Rescue International exhibit in Dallas, the Defender Goggles are designed to fit MSA Cairns 1010 and 1044 traditional helmets.
According to MSA, the goggles are designed to fit between the outer shell and the inner foam impact cap. A toggle system near the wearer’s temple permits the raising and lowering of the goggles, even with gloved hands. The toggle retracts the goggles between the shell and the cap and locks it in place. The same system lowers the convex eye protection, which totally covers the eyes, touching the cheeks when fully deployed.
The lens is made of a polycarbonate material and is optically corrected to provide distortion-free viewing in all portions of the goggles.
While the goggles do not seal against the user’s face, they do offer significant eye protection from dust, dirt and grit, according to MSA.
The sleek design allows the wearer to raise and lower goggles, which are available in amber, clear, smoke and mirrored, with a flip of the switch, according to MSA.
While the lenses will not melt, they may scratch or stain over time, and they are completely replaceable by the user, according to MSA.
The Defender Goggles are available installed on new traditional Cairns helmets and they are available as a user-upgradeable kit.
MSA Cairns’ 1044 fire helmet is traditional-style with a rough, durable matte finish. It was introduced in the spring of 2005. The 1010 helmet is also a traditional unit.
All MSA Cairns helmets are outfitted with Nomex chinstraps and heat resistant earlaps, eye protection, and 3-position rear-ratchet height adjustment that ensures comfortable fits on head sizes between 6 3/8 and 8 3/8. A larger diameter helmet hanger fits easily on larger hooks and racks and every Cairns helmet is backed by a 5-year shell replacement warranty.
Since 1836, Cairns has been making fire helmets using the latest designs and ergonomic advances. They are available in various configurations for almost any firefighting challenge.
