The Cactus Fire Department made the following Facebook post Monday, Nov. 4:

The Cactus Fire Department has begun the process of equipping its firefighters with dual-certified firefighter protection gear. This innovative equipment is specially designed for non-structure fire responses, which represent the majority of the department’s calls for service.

The new gear offers remarkable advantages—it’s significantly lighter and more breathable and helps firefighters stay cooler during operations, enhancing both comfort and safety. By reserving traditional structure firefighting gear for specific fire scenarios, the department will extend its service life while ensuring our team has the right protection for each situation.

“We’re grateful to the Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Fire Department Assistance Program for funding this important upgrade through their grant program,” the department said. “This investment in our firefighters’ safety and effectiveness helps us better serve our community.”
