Zachary LA May Approve Fire Apparatus Purchase

The Zachary City Council will seek Louisiana’s State Bond Commission approval to finance the purchase of a pumper-ladder fire truck. Council members are not sure how the purchase will be paid.

Fire Chief Danny Kimble said Zachary has an opportunity to buy a slightly used fire truck for $685,000.

The truck is a demonstration model, but the manufacturer will provide a new-truck warranty, Kimble said.

To maintain its fire insurance rating, Kimble said, the city must add a ladder truck to its fleet when it has five buildings with three stories or more.

He said the city has four, and there is a question of whether the design of the new Zachary High School gymnasium makes it technically a fifth three-story structure.
