Wreckage from Car Crash Slams into Phoenix Fire Apparatus

Wreckage from a nearby two-car crash slid into a Phoenix fire truck stopped at a red light in a freak accident.

The fire truck was returning to headquarters and had stopped for a red light.

“There was a two-vehicle accident that happened in front of them,” said Phoenix fire Capt. Tony Mure. “One car blew a red light.”

The two SUVs managed to slide into the fire truck.

“Some of our doors were pinned,” Mure said. “The firefighters crawled out of the cab of the truck and immediately began assessing the patients.”

Six people were evaluated for injuries, Mure said.

“A 28-year-old woman in one of the SUVs was transported to a trauma center,” Mure said.

The second SUV carried a family of five. Two adults in the front seats were injured. Three children, ages 8, 10 and 16, were in the back seat. The 16-year-old was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
