Witness: Car Forced Monterey Volunteer (MS) Fire Apparatus Off Road

A witness states a white car traveling southbound on Highway 469 crossed over the center line, forcing a Monterey Volunteer Fire truck off the roadway, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Henry.

MHP said the witness did not get the make and model of the vehicle.

The fire department was responding to an alarm call, in the Live Oak Subdivision of Rankin County Sunday afternoon, around 12:20 p.m. when the truck was involved in an accident.

The truck was traveling north on MS Hwy. 469 when it lost control, ran off the roadway, hit a tree and overturned.

The fire truck was driven by 22-year-old Benjamin Haskins.

Haskins was airlifted to UMC with life threatening injuries, who at last check is listed in critical condition.

Officials with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department said the victim was either entrapped in the vehicle or pinned under the fire truck.
