The Wilmington Fire Department (NC) rolled a new fire truck to celebrate placing a new fire apparatus into service.
Wilmington firefighters retired engine five, a 1995 Sutphen with a 75-foot ladder, which was driven 125,000 miles. The new fire truck is a 2012 model of the old truck, but is considered a safer vehicle with airbags and improved braking and suspension systems.
The new model also includes an on-board foam system that enables foam to be proportioned and dispensed directly from truck outlets and a larger pump that will deliver 1,750 gallons of water per minute.
