The Merced Fire Department is expanding its frontline fleet for the first time in 65 years with the launch of Squad 53, the department said in a Facebook post Monday, March 3.
This two-person unit, based at Fire Station 53, is equipped for EMS calls, small fires, and rescue operations.
With emergency calls rising from 400 in 1959 to more than 12,000 today, Squad 53 will enhance response times and resource efficiency.
