Westampton (PA) has agreed to accept a bid to add a new fire truck to its fleet.
The township has agreed to award an $863,924 contract to the Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. of Nesquehoning (PA) to build the ladder truck.
Only one bid was received due to the demanding specifics of the model, Fire Chief Wylie Johnson explained to officials. In particular, the truck must meet an 11-foot, 6-inches requirement to fit through the door.
The apparatus will be 41 feet long, with a 109-foot ladder, and will be delivered in about a year, according to officials. The township does not have a ladder truck and has had to rely on neighboring communities through mutual aid.
The height demands, posed a challenge for some builders that would have compromised some of the other features that were desired.
