The village Board of Trustees has agreed to move forward on the purchase of fire trucks.
For more than a year, the West Carthage Volunteer Fire Department truck committee has been exploring options to replace two trucks that are more than 20 years old.
The village board is considering purchasing trucks with Freightliner chassis from Wilde Fire Co. of Mayfield.
According to Mayor Scott M. Burto, the original cost for each fire truck was $425,000 but the cost was reduced by $50,000 each with trade-ins and an additional $25,000 since the village is looking to purchase two trucks. Mr. Burto said the village would use $100,000 from the Fire Department reserve fund and lease the trucks over 15 years for $600,000.
If purchased from Wilde Fire Co., the trucks will take a year to build.
Village Treasurer Deborah J. Pierce said the board decision to move forward with the purchase was pending review of the village procurement policy. She said the process has to “go out to bid.”
