Valparaiso (IN) Fire Apparatus Catches Fire

A Valparaiso fire truck caught fire about 8:45 a.m at the intersection of U.S 30 and Ind. 2.

According to Valparaiso Fire Chief David Nondorf , the fire engine was working properly when the engine sputtered, and smoke and flames came out of the engine compartment. The firefighters sprayed it with an extinguisher, but were unable to put the fire out. A second fire truck was called to the scene.

Although the truck sustained serious damage, Nondorf does not think it will be a total loss.
