Unlicensed Driver Who Hit WI Fire Apparatus Charged with DUI

The man who crashed into a Columbia (WI) fire truck, sending four firefighters to an area hospital, has been charged with DUI.

Authorities say Robert Erwin, 49, of Columbia has also been charged with driving under suspension.

A spokesperson with the Columbia Fire Department says the truck was at a stop sign at the intersection when Erwin’s car collided with the fire apparatus.

Erwin was trapped inside and had to be removed from the vehicle. Four firefighters along with Erwin were taken to area hospitals. The firefighters had minor injuries and were treated and released.

Erwin’s injuries were not immediately known.
