Hilton Head Island, S.C. –
The 356 Volunteer Fire Department in Trinity, Texas, whose station was destroyed by fire earlier this month, is due to receive a used fire truck from Palmetto Fire Apparatus, a company in South Carolina, according to a report from The Island Packet.

The July 17th fire destroyed the fire station and equipment worth approximately $400,000 which was uninsured. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause.

Palmetto Fire Apparatus decided to help the department after seeing news reports about their loss, according to the Island Packet report:

Palmetto Fire Apparatus, Ridgeland, South CarolinaPalmetto Fire Apparatus co-owner Hank Strickland said his company will send the fire truck, worth about $30,000, by tractor-trailer on Friday. He and his partner Nick Carmody will travel to Trinity on Sunday to present the gift to the fire department.” The report quoted Strickland to say, “This fire left the city of Trinity with no fire protection, no gear, nothing.”

The report added, “We’ve been very blessed, and we saw it as a good opportunity to step up.”
