Three South Carolina Firefighters Injured After Swerving to Avoid Deer

A fire truck driver apparently swerved to miss a deer and crashed early Monday morning in Pickens County.

Three Pumpkintown Fire Department firefighters were injured when the truck overturned on Pleasant Grove Road. The crew was responding to a structure fire at around 4:45 a.m.

The S.C. Highway Patrol says Mickey Thomas, 64, was at the wheel of the truck when he swerved to avoid a deer. The truck went off the left side of the road and overturned.

Thomas was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital to be treated. Fire officials had earlier said none of three firefighters on the truck suffered life-threatening injuries.
