Texas Rangers Players to Donate Fire Apparatus to West (TX)

Texas Rangers designated hitter Lance Berkman plans to donate a fire truck to West (TX) as it recovers from the deadly fertilizer plant explosion.

The West Volunteer Fire Department lost several of its trucks in the April 17 blast, which killed 15 people, including five firemen from the department.

Berkman is making the donation with the help of the Arlington Fire Department, which helped find and refurbish the truck. It will be presented during Saturday game, which the Rangers have deemed “City of West” night.

West Volunteer Fire Department and much of the town plans to attend the game against the Houston Astros.

Money to purchase an additional fire truck was also donated Tuesday night at the West City Council meeting.
Central Texas Iron Works, which employed two firefighters who died in the blast, gave the city $45,950 and earmarked it for a brush fire truck.

The truck will honor Robert and Doug Snokhous, brothers and volunteer firefighters who were known for their enthusiasm for responding to emergencies.
