The Henderson County Fire Department announced Thursday, Nov. 7 on Facebook that it has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $420,000 to replace a tanker housed at Station 11 in Luray, Tennessee.

Apparatus is the costliest of fire suppression equipment, the post said. Fortunately, financial assistance is appropriated through state and federal tax dollars in the form of grants to assist local government in meeting its fire protection needs. Over the years, an aggressive approach to seeking out and applying for these grants has allowed the department to replace 14 of its 52 pieces of apparatus housed in its 17 fire stations, according to the post.
