The city has agreed to trade a 1995 aerial ladder truck for state-of-the-art breathing apparatus, after bidders at an auction didn’t meet the reserve price for the truck.
Fire Chief William Shaw said a representative of the ladder truck manufacturer — FTD&R — contacted him and proposed a trade for $40,000 in firefighting equipment. The value of the equipment equaled the reserve value placed on the ladder truck.
Solon Fire Department bought a new ladder truck this spring.
In exchange for the truck, the fire department will receive seven updated self-contained breathing apparatus and 23 face pieces. The additional equipment will now allow the department to provide updated equipment for all of its firefighters.
