When the Sheldon Fire Company asked for bids on a new fire truck, they received only two responses.
The bid proposal they brought to the city council on Wednesday was not only considerably lower than the other bid, but it was from a northwest Iowa area company.
Council member Brad Hindt reported that the new truck will be built in Rock Rapids by Maintainer Custom Bodies. The truck, which will cost a little over three hundred thousand dollars will be used mainly for rural fires, replacing the old 1976 model Engine ‘Number One.’
$150,000 will come out of this fiscal year’s budget, with the remaining amount from the 2014-15 budget. According to the contract with Maintainer, the new unit will be delivered by June 1st 2014.
