A Charlotte fire truck ran off the road and hit a ditch Thursday morning, according to the Charlotte Fire Department (http://bit.ly/1jA60pg). This marks the second time this week that a Charlotte Fire Department fire truck was involved in a crash.

The Thursday’s accident happened before 11 a.m. on Byrum Drive.  It is about a quarter of a mile from an animal shelter.

The truck was able to get back on the road. It was the only vehicle involved and no injuries were reported.

The Charlotte Fire Department is defending its rules after a fire truck had previously rolled over and caught fire on Ardrey Kell Road.

The Fire Department sent Channel 9 (http://bit.ly/1n2aEjD) its speed standards Wednesday saying trucks can drive at a top speed of 68 mph when responding to an emergency.

At the time of the crash, the truck was headed to a medical call.

CFD officials said it has reiterated to its members the importance of safety while responding.
