Santa Fe (NM) FD Reunited with First Fire Truck

The Santa Fe Fire Department’s very first fire truck is headed back home to the state’s capital after decades away in Fort Stanton, New Mexico, the department said in a Facebook post recently.

The American LaFrance fire truck was delivered to the city fire department on Feb. 14,1918, and was the very first truck used by SFFD, the post said. The truck was later sent to Fort Stanton Hospital, according to an old photo of the rig.

An SFFD fire official said the antique truck was dropped off at the home of a retired SFFD firefighter in Rio Rancho, who will now work to restore the vehicle, so it is once again street legal, krqe.com reported.

The rig will mainly be used in parades and will likely be parked in a museum, but it will be fully functional, according to the report.

It is unclear where the fire truck will be displayed once it is restored.
