Rosenbauer calls the COMPACT a universal concept pumper.

Rosenbauer plans to unveil its universal concept pumper, the COMPACT, at the Fire Department Instructors Conference April 23-25 in Indianapolis.

Designed to service the rural, suburban and urban fire department markets, the COMPACT, according to Rosenbauer, is smaller than a full custom pumper and has better fuel economy, lighter weight, a lower center of gravity, more maneuverability, easier crew access and Class A foam capability at a much more reasonable cost.

The unit that will be on display at FDIC was built for the European market, but an American version will soon be available, according to the company, which said several U.S. and foreign chassis are being qualified for use with the new concept vehicle.

Rosenbauer said the U.S. version of the COMPACT will meet or exceed the National Fire Protection Association 1901 standard for pumpers with up to 300 hp, 300 gallons of water, a minimum 750-gpm pump and a crew capacity of four or five.
