Rochester (MA) Fire Department Meets KY Recipients of Donated Apparatus

An old fire truck from Rochester (MA) is now answering the call in Cayce (KY)–as FA reported in January–which was ravaged by a tornado late last year. Wednesday, the recipients and donors met at a conference in MA.

The all-volunteer Fulton County Fire and Rescue in western KY lost a firehouse and four apparatus, including three tankers and one engine, reports wcvb.com.

MA fire officials contacted those in KY immediately after to offer assistance, the report says, and after about a week the plans were set. The KY department was looking for a tanker, and the MA department just so happened to have recently taken one out of service; it was then donated.

Fast-forward to Wednesday at a firefighters’ conference in Worcester, the KY officials got a chance to meet the MA official who made it happen, Rochester Fire Chief Scott Weigel.
