A Roanoke (VA) volunteer firefighter is on a quest to find a lost fire engine.
Rob Fariss has been searching for the 1956 Ford for three years. It was the first engine in Roanoke County built specifically for firefighting. Before that fire engine, crews used coverted dump trucks.
The fire engine was assembled in Roanoke and was last used by Cave Spring firefighters in 1977.
This week, Fariss found a photo of the same engine at a fire truck show in Missouri — but the photo is from 30 years ago.
“Right now I’m about 50/50 on finding that engine,” he says. “According to the picture the shape of it was not the best.”
Photos of the engine are making the rounds through the firefighting community. The department is also working a history of its early members. If you can help, contact them here.
