Restored 1925 Nashua (NH) Fire Apparatus for Sale

A 1925 Ahrens-Fox fire pumper originally purchased by the Nashua Fire Department that year is now on sale for $235,000 by Hyman Limited Classic Cars.

Eighty-nine years ago this week, Nashua Fire Commissioner Charles H. Austin announced the commission was “going forward immediately” with its plan to complete the “motorization” of the fire department, which meant buying six new Ahrens-Fox fire engines, pumpers and ladder trucks.

“Once I saw it, I said, ‘Oh, boy, we’ve got to do something,'” Fire Commission Chairman Paul Garant said. “I know a lot of guys would love to see it come back.”

Garant said he approached an alderman to goad him into writing a resolution to lend some political clout to any future “bring back the Ahrens-Fox” campaign.

“I told him, ‘It’s only 235 … thousand,'” Garant said with a laugh. “He told me to find someone else.”

After the truck was retired from service, it is believed to have been bought by Arthur Fiedler, the late Boston Pops conductor.
