Reno Fire Department Replacing Older Fire Equipment

The Reno city council approved three purchase items–new breathing apparatus, a $400 thousand engine and new mobile data computers which will improve their communications.

“And each new generation of that equipment improves on that technology,” says Cochran. “So we’re taking advantage of that.”

The fire department hasn’t been doing without any these items. They’re in use every day, but new replacements and upgrades, Cochran says, will make the firefighters and our community a little safer.

“We’re always giving 100 percent, the fire department and the firefighters, whatever equipment we have, but this is going to allow us to maximize the effort we give. That 100 percent is going to provide better service to the citizens.”

The breathing apparatus was purchased using a $750,000 federal grant with a 10 percent city match. The engine will be bought for about $400,000, the mobile computers, $150,000.
