Redway Fire Protection District CA Hosted First Fire Apparatus Operator Course

Redway Fire Protection District recently hosted its first Fire Apparatus Operator course. This course was designed to assist local volunteer firefighters in upgrading their driver’s licenses to include the firefighter endorsement allowing them to drive fire apparatus.

The class consisted of four hours of lecture relative to the laws and liability pertaining to the operation of emergency vehicles. Following the classroom phase, 16 hours of behind-the-wheel vehicle placement were also required. Additionally, class participants were instructed on proper pre-trip safety inspections of their fire apparatus.

The class consisting of 44 firefighters from Palo Verde, Alderpoint, Garberville, Briceland, Whitethorn, Whale Gulch, Shelter Cove, Telegraph Ridge, Miranda, Myers Flat, Fruitland Ridge, Redcrest and Redway fire districts attended and successfully completed this course.

These students have mastered the skills necessary to conduct preoperational checks of their apparatus, safe driving practices and laws pertaining to emergency vehicle operation. The enthusiasm and energetic class participation enabled the students to challenge themselves to higher levels.
